Internet Tax Ban Expires

The notion of the Internet has always been to readily share information to whoever wanted or need it. 5 years ago a temporary tax ban was in place to ensure every social economic group could have access. Now that the ban has expired states are eyeing the Internet as a possible solution to their economic shortfalls. States are arguing that telecommunications are moving to the internet and if a ban was in place the states would be unable to collect telecommunication taxes.

Recently, a bill in the Senate was narrowly defeated to put a permanent ban on Internet taxation. As stated cash strapped states are worrying about losing tax revenue, as communications move to the internet.

To tax the internet would be ludicrous, in the last 5 years the internet has become the life blood of business and America culture. Any taxation would limit the availability of the Internet to poor populations. The best way to put it – taxing the Internet would be like taxing the air we breathe, we would suffocate.
