Browser Wars Over?

Much has happened today, AOL layed off 50 Netscape employees, which has been interpreted by the industry as the death of Netscape. In the process creating the Mozilla foundation and granting them 2 million dollars over the next two years. Others companies have claimed interest in Mozilla but that will be seen when it’s time to pay the piper.

This leaves Microsoft’s IE, an aging browser that Mircosoft has stated it will no longer update and Opera a speedy browser that has been around almost as long as Netscape. Just recently it’s gain notoriety in the media as a possible alternative browser.

The IT Industry seems to still be in a state of streamlining, cutting non-essential programs. As the IT industy continues to plummet, it’s bound to rebound. It’s just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

Driver Crashed in Market

I am sure that everyone has heard of the 86 year old driver crashing into a marketplace killing 10 people. My question is why is an 86 year old driver behind the wheel? Should an age be imposed on drivers that after say 83 years old people are no longer fit to drive? For the elders who are fit to drive is it too bad? The police suspect that the guy hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.

This is a case of whats more important, the rights of a generation or the saftey of the citizens of many generations. It seems whatever the solution is it’s going opress some group of people.

A possible solution is to create an age limit that a person can not drive without the permission of a doctor. This permission can be given in 3 month, 6 month, 9 month and 1 year intervals. If the person gets into an accident the doctor granting the permission could be held responsible. It’s a good solution, but doctors could disagree, and they have a strong lobby.
