“Who am I?”

February 26, 2005 · 2 minute read

A good friend posted this on his site. Here is my response I posted in his comments:

I swear sometimes I think other people know better than I.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why I am here or what’s life purpose. I’ve decide that I am here because I am here. There is no other explanation. As for life’s purpose, it’s whatever you make it.

Many people wait to be given a purpose. It never comes. These poor souls flounder around in life. They end up bitter old people.

If I am wrong, the only person who can answer your questions are you and yourself. Nobody else can be you and tell you what you should be doing.

Because we are human, we are compelled by our fears and desires.

We control our fears and desires. We compel ourselves.

Though even harder yet, why do we hold expectations of our friends, family, spouses knowing that the personal definition to “who am I” will change?

Expectations we hold of our friends, family, spouses are expectations we hold of ourselves. It’s unfair of us to hold our expectations to other people; we can only judge other people by their own expectations.

“Who am I” changes daily (at least for me). Today I’ve read a little more, this post has stretched my mind a little more. I am not the same person today as I was when I went to sleep last night. I have changed ever so slightly.

Tomorrow I’ll be someone a little different than today.
