Lunch with a Former Professor

Doc Sager one of the more laid back professors I know. We talked about the future: personal and professional. I like this guy he is frank about everything. It’s good to someone older not embattled with age.

We got to talking about a project him and another professor are working on. It’s huge. He wants what sounds like to me a virtual company. He want’s to use it in his classes.

One of the problems with education is its narrowness. Can you imagine going to a class and actually thinking? Dam it’s been a while for me. I’ve taken hundreds of classes (I can prove it with my student loans). I can count the ones that made me think on one hand.

Imagine walking into a class and being told your servers are down. What are you going to do? Customers are upset, tech support lines are ringing off the hook and you are loosing thousands of dollars a minute.

What are some possible solutions? Some could be: Outsourcing to an ISP, fixing the servers, buying news ones.. etc… It doesn’t stop there, you must find the money, the shipping, lead times, labor, testing, damage control the list goes on.

Talk about a learning experience.
